On March 7, the Department of Education notified Columbia University that over $400 million in federal grants and contracts were cancelled.
On February 7, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced a 15% cap on its research overhead recovery rate. This ceiling will apply to all new research grants as well as existing grants as of the February 10 effective date. Currently, Cornell charges overhead recovery rates up to 64%.
Cornell needs to utilize its endowment for students and researchers instead of hoarding the hundreds of millions it returns every year.

Cornell has invited Angela Davis to give the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Lecture on February 3, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in Sage Chapel. Tickets are required. As of December 15, in person attendance was sold out, but registration is available for the livestream.
