The troublemakers in question should be ashamed of themselves. While shouting that Coulter’s “speech is violence,” they assault the very basis upon which the nation stands.
The object of Coulter’s saboteurs was not to present an alternative point of view nor to disprove Ms. Coulter’s arguments, and certainly not to “hear her out.” They were there specifically to prevent the free exchange of ideas.
Forswearing digital connection, even partly, is to forgo opportunities in education, employment, recreation, entertainment, and even dating. Many activities and institutions are becoming downright hostile to those who wish to limit their screen usage, including Cornell.
Day Hall must now conduct a similar cost-benefit analysis of PRC involvement based on these latest disclosures.
Mandatory statements, mechanically recited as if prayers at the start of events or on departmental websites will persuade no one. Nor does the current land acknowledgement appease either the AIISP or the advocates of indigenous land claims.
Lynah Rink hosts public skate times for only one hour a day, four days a week, and during the middle of the school day, with no times after class hours or on weekends. This schedule is prohibitive for most Cornell students.
