Cornellian Fights for Barack Obama’s Former Senate Seat

Mark Kirk ’81 is in a tight race against Alexi Giannoulias (D) for the open Illinois Senate seat. He’s ahead by 3 points in the most recent polls, but those only date back to the beginning of June before criticisms started to emerge about his alleged work as a teacher.  The Sun wasted no time by running this AP story on Kirk’s apology for his exaggerated qualifications.

A victory for Kirk would give the Republicans a symbolic victory over the Obama administration–it was Obama’s seat only two years ago– add a much needed Senate seat to the Republican minority, and also add a Cornell alum to the Senate. The Review will continue bringing you developments from this race all the way up until election day in November.
