
On December 13th, around 4:22 P.M., Brown University sent a message to its students that there was an active shooter near the Barus & Holley Engineering building, which houses the University’s School of Engineering and the Department of Physics. The alert told students to lock their doors, silence their phones, and stay hidden under further notice.
At 5:11 P.M., Brown University informed the students that there was not yet a suspect in custody and that the search would continue. Law enforcement agencies are currently working to apprehend the shooter.
Around 5:27 P.M. Brown reported there were gunshots fired around Governor Street, but later stated at 6:10 P.M. that the information was unfounded.
As of now, at least two students were killed and eight victims are in critical, but stable condition. Other reports suggest there were nine victims, but this information has yet to be confirmed by the University. Brown continues to be under lockdown as law enforcement seeks to find the suspect.
Brown University stated on its website there may be delays with further updates, however they are working diligently to provide more information and protect the students’ safety.
As of now, the students are still in lockdown.
