History department poised to maintain legacy of unbiased instruction in Fall 2009 semester

I was browsing the course catalogue today and came across the following titillating offering from Cornell’s very own history department, scheduled for the upcoming fall semester:

HIST 3431 – Obama and Lincoln

Crosslist as: AMST 3431

4CR Stdnt Opt

LEC 001 MW 11:15AM – 12:05PM

Baptist,E (eeb36)

I have no doubt in the slightest that this course will be taught in a completely fair and unbiased manner.  Unfortunately, the 2009-2010 Courses of Study is not yet available, so we don’t yet have the department’s official description.  I have emailed Professor Baptist for a summary of the course and will post his reply once he sends it.

The best part about this is that “The W.’s:  Bush and Washington” surely can’t be too far behind.

[UPDATE]:

Professor Baptist was kind enough to respond:

The course will look at both of the presidents in the context of the
political histories of their respective era. It will also examine their
writings and speeches in order to discuss the ways in which they attempt to
make use of and to modify the intellectual heritage of American political
ideology and history. We’ll read several secondary works and extensive
primary sources for each. There will be a prelim, a final, and at least one
essay.

There you have it.  Find Professor Baptist’s website here.
